Where to stay in Elafonisi: Top picks by our readers

Are you thinking of going to Elafonisi in Crete – one of the most family friendly beaches in Europe – but you are not sure where to stay? Good news… we have done the homework for you.

The following apartments/ hotels have either been recommended by our local families or we have personally stayed there.  We have also done our due diligence by reading reviews on social media and other blogs. To save you time, we have included the link in the booking.com so…  if you find a room in any of them… just BOOK it!

Just a warning about Elafonisi: do not expect to find a luxury resort/ hotel there; Elafonisi is rather rural with only a few restaurants, mini-markets! Do not stay there if you are looking for  high speed internet and luxurious holidays. That said, it is guaranteed that you will relax!

Hotel Glykeria

Although not walking distance to Elafonisi, it is only 5 minutes drive away. There is a great tavern which is very handy for families. Spacious and clean rooms.

Elafonisi Resort by Kalomirakis Family

Surrounded by olive trees, The Kalomirakis resort offers guests a true value for money, relaxing and laid back stay in close proximity to Elafonisi beach. There is an a la carte restaurant which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some of the units are self-catered (they offer a small kitchenette). Apart from Elafonisi, Kedrodasos Beach is 1.2 miles away.

Nireides

Located approximately 3 miles (5 km) from Elafonisi beach, it offers basic but relaxing accommodation. The communal pool is a hit among kids. The taverna and mini market is convenient for parents. The kitchenette are handy but basic in terms of equipment. The sunset- facing units and Nireides location are the biggest highlights.

Hello Village

Although a bit further away, Hello Village comes highly recommended because it’s half way to Elafonisi beach (11 miles) and Falassarna beach (12 miles), another fantastic Cretan beach. Stay there if you would like an authentic Cretan experience away from the crowds. Hello Village offers stunning views, modern amenities in a traditional environment and true Cretan hospitality by the owners. The only downside is that there is not much around in terms of grocery shopping/ tavernas.

Is it impossible for you to find accommodation in Elafonisi? Try Falassarna, another kid-friendly beach on the Western side of Crete.

Located less than a mile from Falassarna beach, the key competitor in terms of beauty to Elafonisi beach, Roubini Apartments are built on a hill and offer breathtaking views. It consists of self-catered studios and apartments with well-equipped kitchenettes. All rooms are spotless clean and spacious. Great value for money.
