Nymphes Cafe

If you are staying near Chania town you must pay a visit to Nymphes Cafe which is next to Venizelos Graves on the road to the airport as you leave Chania.

It is really a special find that would be difficult to come across or know about without recommendation, and on those grounds it is mostly frequented by locals. It is especially popular with local families on weekend afternoons, especially on Sundays.

The view is absolutely stunning as it has an elevated position above Chania from where you can understand the scale of the city plus you can see along the coast as far as the Rodopos Peninsula about 40 kilometres away. Views of the sunsets from here can be absolutely stunning as the sun drops behind the peninsula leaving a red glow on the Aegean Sea in front of you.

Light main courses are served (club sandwich/pizza/spaghetti etc) as are excellent salads. However, the main attraction if Nymphes is the dessert menu and portions are HUGE yet still very reasonably priced. The chocolate cake with ice cream seems to be one of the favourites, and please don’t make the mistake of ordering one each as these are definitely made for sharing – and you definitely need a sweet tooth for this one!

• You will pass Koukavaia Cafe just before Nymphes. They have a similar menu but could be considered to be a bit trendier
