Discover the hidden treasures of Monemvasia
Monemvasia is one of the best lesser known towns of Peloponnese. Located on the waterfront, initially it was built as a Byzantine fort. Even today it maintains its historical uniqueness which, combined with the natural beauty of the area, offers an unforgettable family holiday.

Most of the buildings in the town have their roots in the Venetian, Ottoman and Byzantine periods and they have been renovated with full respect to the past. Forts, mansions and churches spring up everywhere, all with an amazing sea view.

The paved roads also take you back to the Byzantine era. Cars are strictly only allowed as far as the entrance to the town and accordingly quaint alleys promise carefree walks within the boundaries.

For a summer holiday the choice of beaches is endless as some are sandy, some are pebbly, and some are rocky. However, they all have clean water! There are also activities for children of all ages, such as a tour of the castle, a tour to a traditional olive grove combined with olive oil tasting, hiking, or perhaps a visit to the nearby watermills at Talanta.

The cave of Kastania is also unique as the sea and the waves have ‘carved’ incredible geological features over the centuries.
Parents will also keep occupied as there are activities such as diving, wine tasting in nearby wineries, or perhaps participate in a cooking lesson. Speaking of cooking, tavernas in Monemvasia are few but at the same time excellent. Should you be feeling romantic a fresh fish dinner by the sea and under the moonlight should go down a treat!
