It Is A MUST To ‘Be Lost’ In Mykonos Town

Mykonos Town is one of the most picturesque old towns in Greece. It is the ideal place to wander around and be lost in the narrow alleys on the town. It is worth stopping at the Archaeological Museum, where you can see interesting collections of jewellery, figurines, funerary statues, and pottery, which date back thousands of years. If your kids are interested in ships, you can also take them to the Aegean Maritime Museum, where they can take a look at a wide range of nautical instruments and ancient vessels. The Folk Museum as well as Lena’s House are also both worth visiting.

Let your children stop in every store and do some ‘window shopping’ (and buy some souvenirs for their classmates and Teachers back home)!

As you wander around, search for Petros the Pelican, the fabled resident and mascot of Mykonos. He is definitely the most sociable Pelican you have ever met (and will meet).

Choose A Different Beach Every Day Depending On Your Mood

Honestly, there are so many beaches to choose from that your choice all depends on your mood! For example, if you like a quiet beach with some basic infrastructure, Agios Ioannis is perfect for you. If you like some action but want to escape the crazy party animal scene go to Plati Gialos, Psarou Beach or Ornos. Also, in Panormos Beach, there are a couple of restaurants and kids love the gigantic bean bags in the trendy beach club.  We particularly like Agrari Beach, where you will find a good mix of tourists and locals.  Agrari Beach is also ideal for kids due to the calm waters, water sports and the little playground. There is also a cafe and bar.

In most of the beaches, you can do motorized water sports.

Also, get your fins and mask and discover the underwater world while snorkelling.

An important note: although the beaches on the north side of the island might look like a swimmer’s paradise on postcards, they might be windy and rough in July and August. In order to stay on the safe side, choose a beach along the south coast of the island where they are protected from the winds.

Take A Picture Of You With Little Venice In The Background

Yes, you read correctly! Little Venice is in Mykonos and not in Italy! Indeed, Little Venice is located on the western part of Mykonos Town and it is a row of buildings which have been constructed right on the sea’s edge. Your children will be amazed when they see that the balconies literally “meet’” the sea. Little Venice was a great spot for the loading and unloading of goods by pirates during the 16th and 17th century, hence, its name.

Go there during sunset because the view of the Windmills is truly unforgettable.

Say Cheese! In Front Of The Windmills Of Mykonos Town

The windmills of Mykonos Town are the most recognized landmarks of Mykonos. These picturesque windmills are positioned in the western part of the town and serve as remembrance to the island’s wheat and bread industry, which spanned many years ago.

Visit Paraportiani Church and “Armenistis”, the infamous Mykonos Lighthouse

You will recognize this white church with the breath-taking view, Paraportiani, straight away as it is widely featured in many books and postcards. Actually, although there are over 800 chapels in Mykonos, Panagia Paraportiani Church is the most unique due to its construction; it combines 4 different architectural styles mixing Byzantine, vernacular, traditional and western style. Actually, the four churches around it comprise the whole of the church of Paraportiani.

If lighthouses fascinate your family, you should definitely stop by at Armenistis. Located only 7 km northeast of Mykonos Town, this lighthouse of Mykonos sits on a majestic place. There the whole family will enjoy stunning views of the nearby island of Tinos and observe all boats arriving and leaving Mykonos. Do not forget your drawing pads!
