2 Day Family Sailing Trip to Kea Island

Kea is one of the Cycladic islands, and whilst little known to non-Greeks, is a favourite with wealthy Athenians who have holiday homes there. Its charm lays in the serene and picturesque villages, clear waters perfect for snorkelling, and wonderful beaches. This 2-day Family Sailing Trip to Kea Island from Athens is the perfect way to experience the island!

Day 1: Departure from Athens, stops: Karthea’s beach, Spathi beach

We will collect your family from your hotel in Athens, and then drive you out to the port at Lavrio. It is here that you will be introduced to the skipper, and can climb aboard! Younger kids might want to keep an eye out for pirates during the 3 hour journey across the sea to Kea, where the boat can anchor near Karthea’s beach. Here, you can enjoy a swim, look at the ruins of an ancient temple, and then have a light lunch aboard or on shore.

The next stop, is the beach of Spathi, which is thought to be one of the best on Kea. There is plenty of time for everyone to swim, sunbathe, and have fun. In the evening, the boat will anchor at port, and your family can visit one of the best seafood restaurants on the island.

Day 2: Family stroll in Kea Chora, a visit to an Agrotourism Farm, Xyla beach

After breakfast, it is time to explore some of the island. First of all, the quaint alleyways of Chora await, along with at least one stop for a Greek coffee and a pastry! From here, we suggest a visit to an agrotourism farm as it is bound to appeal to the kids. They will love seeing pasteli (a local sweet) being made, as well as trying them of course! Lunch will consist of locally made products such as pies, cheese, olives, and salads accompanied by the famous Kea honey.

After lunch, there is still time to visit another beach, swim, and relax. We suggest Xyla beach which is on the east coast of the island. Finally, it is time to set sail for the mainland port at Lavrio, where transport back to your hotel in Athens will be waiting for you.
