Bakery Class and Village Life – A True Cretan Experience

This family-friendly activity is a great way for kids and adults alike to get a taste of rural Cretan life. We will collect you from your hotel, and take you to Vatos village, where after some introductions, you can jump straight into the baking class. Under the watchful eye of an excellent host and instructor, you will talk about traditional baking methods, eventually putting theory into practice.

As you knead the dough, your instructor will talk of life in the village, what it used to be like in the past, and many local stories. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn first hand about rural life in another country, and the kids are sure to have great fun with the dough! When the dough is ready, it needs to rest for a while, so this is when the village tour takes place.

Take your cameras, as you will be sure to want plenty of photos of the village, especially the raki cauldron and water faucets! After the tour, you will return to the baking lesson, where you can shape the bread and then put it in the oven.

When the bread is ready, you then take it to another house in the village, where a friendly owner is ready to welcome you inside. Here, you can listen to endless stories of Cretan culture, legends and history as you share a delicious lunch made from local products. The atmosphere is lively and friendly, and one that all the family will enjoy! Finally, it is time to leave and head back, having experienced a side of Crete few people ever get to see.
